what is the best way to suck out all the wast that collects in the first section of my sump from my tank drain?

thanks ahead of time.

Turkey baster is your best friend. Controlled water movement and volume for that matter, plus it works as a tool for many other things. If you don't want to do that you could also get a short piece of hose and create a siphon and suck it out off the bottom. Hope that helps.

I saw a post not too long ago with what I thought was a pretty ingenious idea. I have been using this method for a while now and it works like a charm....

Get a gallon rubbermaid container and some pillow stuffing at wally world. remove the lid and fill 1/2 with stuffing. replace lid & drill a hole in the top & bottom of the container. hook up a PH to the container with flex hose, place in sump and stir it up every 15 min or so. works like a charm and it is practically effortless.

i usually put a powerhead in the sump and have a little bit of flexible pipe connected to it, i then just use it as a vaccum, never thought of the turkey baster idea, i suppose it could also suck up the detritus as well, and theres also the sock which will help stop the detritus from getting into the sump in the first place
