Sump questions

My wife has given me permission to sump our canister filters and get a sump. I have a 120 gallon (24×24×48) . The tank isn't drilled.

What overflow box can i use so i don't have issues with flooding my house?

What's a good sump for the money? Is there one I can put a protein skimmer in and potentially cheato?

What's a high quality pump?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Eshopps HOB, 1 year running and I've never had an issue. Word of advice, get bigger than you expect. They can't handle the flow they say they can. I added a small modification to silence the downpipe and it works really well.

Too vague of a question really to answer with the sump, what is your price range, you can do anything from a DIY 40 breeder to spend crazy money on something custom.

I would drill the tank, it sounds scary, but it is quite easy and ultimately much safer. Ideally you want three 1" drain lines, but you can get by with two 1" drains. If you do drill the tank I would use a ghost coast to coast with a behind the tank overflow box, it will give you more room in the tank and better surface skimming. Depending on how big your stand is I would use a 75 gallon tank and add my own baffles for a sump if the 75 will fit in your stand. I run an Eheim 1262 return pump in my 120 gallon system, it's a great pump with a proven long term track record, many of them last over 20 years. Some of the newer D.C. Pumps run a little more efficiently, but the difference is small and since the return pump is the heart of your system, I like the Eheim pump for its reliability.
