Sump/refugium for new 180

the only thing I see is you might want to make sure you have enough room to clean the glass in between the bubble baffles. or have a scraper that will fit the 1/2" space.

In the first tank, is the area with LR/sand feeding the skimmer chamber?

Also, just make sure that 8.5" for your skimmer is going to allow the skimmer to sit in the sump in a convenient way... I built mine pretty tight and regret it! It's such a PITA to mess with now.

What is the purpose of using 2 tanks instead of 1 large one like an acrylic 65 or 90 tall?

Will the return area retain enough water to feed the pump? Seems to me there are a lot of restrictions to flow (baffles and hose connecting two tanks) and seemingly small return area size. My impression may be incorrect, but i thought i'd put it out for consideration. Have fun.

I have been running 2 the whole time, my original 29 cracked and I was forced to scramble and get a new sump. picked up a oceanic wet/dry cheap and then added a new 29 into the mix.

I am just removing the wet/dry feature and add live rock and my skimmer.(sump)

and it will feed the 29gal which will only house a fuge ans the return pump.

Makes sense,

Then the only thing I would add would be what the above poster wrote,

Larger return area for pumps, heaters, etc and a great place to draw water for water change.

And for what its worth, my sump has 2 baffles vs 3 and they are 2 1/4 in between them vs your 1/2 in.

Thanks lynn,

Just looking at changing it up a bit. Old sump was a wet/dry trickle and a jacked up/ messed up baffle system....

I accept all input and criticism, that is how we learn. By not making the same mistakes our fellow reefers have made.
