sump return piping advise plz

as the post states
what diameter should i use to return the water to my tank

i have a mag 5 (1/2 inch outlet)
will swap out the stock impeller for the mag 7 impeller to pick up flow
i was thinking 3/4 or 1 inch
also for testing out the system b4 livestock goes in i'm using white plastic flex hose seems ok but can hear the water splashing down to the sump over the ribs.
should i use hard pvc or vinyl tubing?
also for the return should i use the vynil or hard pvc? (i read somewhere that hard piping the return can lead to noise from the return pump)

I used spa flex for my return as then there are no sharp bends.

I would use 1" pipe for the return, nothing smaller, and I prefer PVC to vinyl tubing and hose clamps.

For the drain, PVC or vinyl is ok since it is not a pressure situation, although my preference is PVC.
