Sump Room Renovation (First Forum Post)

Hi Folks,

I have been a fan of Reef Central for years. Just read only.

Finally I have time with kids growing up to do my first post.

Would like to share a project I am working on. (Not sure if this is the right section, however can't hurt).

(Sump Room Reno Project)

This all started about 8 weeks ago when I purchase my Apex Jr (+EB8, +PM1).

Goal was to clean up the wiring, while having easy access for skimmer and pump maintenance. Also to get rid of my old breaking down mech. timers.

I took a ECO friendly approach, and reused spare stuff lying around like scrap wood, left over project screws, old paint, spare wires, old DC computer fans etc, and a old bathroom cupboard.

Key piece was getting cable trays, to get rid of exposed wires, but easy to take out.

Still not finished, however here is a peek. Rough cost so far under $300 (not incl Apex)

Sump Room runs Two Tanks:

(1) (Kitchen Tank in 1st Floor Kitchen) - 90 Gal Fish/Coral mix, NO SPS
(2) (Basement Office In-Wall Tank) - 65 Gal Fish/SPS Only

Not to distract your attention from the BLUE ROOM reno.


Here is a pic of the redone workroom. Mostly de-clutter and reorganization using hooks, thumb tacks and bins from the dollar store.

The best feature here is the power bar that I found ($9) with individual switches for each outlet. Great for turning on and off stuff during maintenance, rather than pulling and damaging the power cords.

This place was worse then the sump room before.

I can now find everything. Time to start taking care of my tanks properly.
