Sump sections

I am planning my sump. Section 1 will be the drain and skimmer the question is should the return be next and the refugium last or should the refugium be next and the return last. If I put the refugium next the skimmer it can be fed from that section, if I put it on the end I would need to tee off of my drain line. Anyone see advantages to doing it one way or the other?

Probably right. I guess if I put the fuge next to the drain I would possibly eliminate a tee off the drain line and I could mount my reactors next to the pump since they will need a feed from it.
 
I think giving the skimmer first access to protein-laden overflow water is best .... otherwise doesn't really matter much.
 
Simon, I totally agree. I also would think the water, post media reactor(s) should go into the return section, not the refugium.

Same length and height as mine but I am going 19" wide. Took my measurements over to the glass shop today to get a quote on 3/8" glass. Unfortunately they are closed all next week so they won't do anything until the week after. I am tempted to just buy something pre done but for $500+ I think I can do better. Where does your return pump go?

I'm building mine out of acrylic and I'm running my pump external. My local acrylic shop was going out of business so I lucked out and got all my acrylic free. I'm going with blue, white, and clear acrylic. It's all 3/8" as well.

There are good deals and there are REALLY good deals, you fit into the latter. I have worked with acrylic a little bit but not a tank and I don't have the tools to make it nice.
 
Ya it was luck that I found that lol. Here is the mock up of my algae reactor. I'm building the led strip to go in the center tube. Rapid led's is where I order the materials from. Also building a diy light for my bio cube to replace the power compacts. If that goes well I'll be redoing the lights above my 190 with a big diy light.

The main advantage I see to putting the fuge last is that you can control how much flow it gets. I'm not sure how much flow you were planning through your sump but if it's massive then fuge last might be a good idea.

I made my own led light for my last tank which was about 110g. It had 70+ leds all on stars that I had to solder, and of course each group had a pot so there were a lot of wires. Not this time. I bought the Reef Breeder R90 which has 6 zones and is all Cree xp expect for the violets, reds and greens as I recall. The nice thing is you can order individual leds from them and make up your own lighting profiles and it is wifi. I am going to do this as soon as I can get me new set-up running which is now pushed back another couple of weeks. I could easily make the led light for 1/2 the cost but it would not look as nice and no wifi. I have thought about making one for my refugium, but I sure that idea will soon pass.

Actually it can all be wifi and controller from your phone with a video feed using the blue fish controller from rapid led. Here is the YouTube link to the video of it in action. Still 2/3 the cost and can be made to look great with a splash guard to cover the wires.

Not for me. Too much soldering for the cost difference. If I spend all me time soldering who is going to cut the grass??
 
Found the heatsink for my 190 gallon 70"x10"2" fins. This thing is A Beast! How the bio cube and reactor lights work out is if the 190 gallon light will be built. Could not pass this up, price was too god.

Steve, looks like a lot of leds. What are doing about fans? They rarely run if on a thermostat unless you crank up all the lights in which case it will look the the Griswold's house in the Christmas Vacation movie.
