Sump socks

I ran across a posting somewhere the other day that was "sump socks for sale for 4 bucks each... shipping included"...they are 100 micron and have the option of a drawstring. Is that a good deal? I don't currently use them and want to know what everyone else's personal experiences have been.

I have one but never use it. I suppose it sort of freaks me out that it can either clog up, needs cleaned or a fish jumped and is now getting pounded... Im just paranoid though.... good stuff for micro bubbles though

yes- good deal- but they need to be monitored closely- I will use mine for a few weeks then not due to pure laziness. I would like to get in on that deal as well.

Once the socks get clogged, the water will run out of the opened end so you shouldn't have to worry about flooding or running your sump/pump dry. Sometimes mine will go a week and other times just a couple days before I need to swap them out. My setup uses one large sock but I have 6. I can swap them out when I need to and wash them discretely so my wife doesn't realize I'm using her washing machine to clean them.

Go to Joann fabrics and u can but the material to make them your self. That is if u have a sowing machine. I always run filter socks but they have a plastic rim. They work great. Once they get dirty and clog up the water just overflows the rim of the sock. I then toss it in the washing machiene with a cap full of bleach and wash it and then rinse untill it bleach smell is gone then I rinse it again.

I use mine to run carbon passively in my tank. I realize a reactor would be the way to go, but I am too cheap and didn't win the one they had in the raffle last month Check out bulkreefsupply or talk to Dave about what you can get them for from him, I feel like I didn't pay that much for mine....

am I allowed to post the link to the site for the socks? I talked to the guy that runs the site. He seems top be on the up and up and is just starting out his filter sock business. I am going to order from him in the near future. he will customize any size.

I spoke to Matt @ sump socks today and he said he would be glad to give a special PMAS group buy price, if anyone was interrested, and he is willing to donate for a club raffle if we get a group buy together.

I am in for 5. Emailed him before actually checking out the site properly. It appears the 100 micron is all he has.
