Sump Turbulence and Skimming Effectiveness

My Tunze 9010 is in a sump with a high turbulent flow (~800gph) and lots of bubbles introduced by the air hole atop the standpipe of the overflow. I noticed that the manual suggests “quiet water” for the skimmer.

I’m considering reducing the return flow by half and introducing flow devices (Nanostreams?) in the main display tank to make up the shortfall. How much will this flow reduction in the sump help the skimming?

Thanks!

It will mainly help reduce microbubbles and may result in a slight improvement in skimming.
