sump!

I have attached a picture of my sump for 100g reef, my question is what do I do with it!! it is a euro-fill sump, with no media. I contains an allseas protien skimmer. Should I put some rock, or sand, or something else to benefit the overall performance of the reef!!!

Thank again for your help

I like a simple and uncluttered sump personally. I'd redesign it so that the skimmer recieves all raw water first in a standing reservoir/partition. The stable water level alone will dramatically improve its performace.

Now as far as rock, sand, rubble, etc... it depends on your goal(s).

I'd use rubble or... you can string suspended submerged scrubber/polyester pads if your goal is to produce a lot of microcrustaceans for food (amphipods and the like).

Or... add a chamber with deep sugar fine sand if you need denitrification and have no DSB in the display.

For nutrient export... chaetomorpha spaghetti algae is one of the very best and most stable choices.

In my new book "Reef Invertebrates", we give almost 100 of 400 pages of content to the subject of plants, algae and refugium methodologies. OK... thats shameless plug #2 in three days. I'll behave :D

Best regards,

Anthony

DSB?

DSB?

What is DSB......and will the sump function well as is??? The skimmer is filling once every 3-5 days with deep green color...

You have been a huge help......

Where are you books located for purchase...

I have been doing this whole reef/saltwater thing for a while, but am always trying to learn more and carry very open ears....

Would it be possible to send you all of my information with pictures and have you take a look at my entire system?

I'll buy your book!!!!;) ok lame attempt at a bribe!

Thanks again....

Yeah...When that book showing up on my doorstep? Preordered back in Feb.

Cheers, JB...

Sounds like you missed our e-mail update. My apologies if we had a glitch contacting you. 'Twas a broadcasted messages without followups.

Hopes were for the end of March... the addition of content delayed that by two months. The printer says they are on track for us still... scheduled trucks to begin shipping the books next week to Cali.

Bob and I will meet in San Diego to sign the pre-orders... mailing the first week of July it appears. :)

Thanks kindly for the support/inquiry. I hope you enjoy the read!

Anthony
