Sun Coral Display Tank

This tank is stunning and truly an inspiration
I love the look of suncorals, but can't keep them alive yet

I also LOVE sponges and Tube nems, so your tank is really special to me.

Truly one of the most unique tanks I have ever come across

So will you ever throw some black sun corals in with them? Stunning tank, they are my favorite corals.

Already got 'em covered ;)

hello,
Your tank is so nice...it has inspired me and I just put two sun corals in my 210 and plan on added like fifty more. Great work!
With your massive experience with these corals would you say if they were under 250MH's they would still do ok. I know they dont need light but i have several gorgonians that are doing really well that are NP.
the blue fish with the yellow/orange really looks sick nice job!
TOTM for sure.
thanks for sharing.

 I didn't even see those.

A stunning tank, no doubt :inlove:

But marius I have a quick question for you.

Do you feed the corals while the fish are out? Do the fish steal food from the polyps then encouraging the colony to stay closed when the fish are about?

If you feed the suns when the fish are asleep how do you encourage them to stay open during the day?

Thank you very much for your time. :)

Again beautiful tank. I too have a similar question. I've heard that you can train sun corals to stay open during daylight, but how? They are so darn nice I wish my colony would open durind the day.

Again thanks for the inspiration.

FWIW its easy to train them to stay open during the day. But not if fish start nipping at them or stealing food from their polyps I think.

I have had this experience with other LPS that open when they are attracted to the smell of food in the water. Then they draw the attention of my flame angel, and now no longer open during the day. :mad2:

Thank you all for comments.
I feed sun corals after all lights are switched off, so most of the fish are asleep.
I think the daily feeding makes a difference and because of it, sun corals tend to stay open more during day time. Whenever I go away for a few days or a week and sun corals are not fed during that time, they do not open as much during the day after my return. By daily feeding the suns can waste more energy and stay open more. That is just my experience with them...

Many thanks

Mariusz set up a new aquarium, a drop-off reef no less that's been coming together amazingly. You can see some info and pics here at GBD: http://glassbox-design.com/2009/the-drop-off-lps-reef-of-mariusz/ or view his build thread here on UR: http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=322764

He went through a few troubles while the transfer, and some unfortunate troubles with the new tank (builder mostly), but all in all this new set-up is nothing short of amazing.

Post some pics here Mariusz! :D

Thanks Austin, I did see that, but I guess it slipped my mine.

I know you mentioned that you are able to keep them open during the day but by this do you mean "all day"? I too am curious as to what this tank looks like during usual waking hours. Would you mind sharing a few pics of that?
