Sun coral help

Not sure what category this belongs in, but I ended up with an orange sun coral that I'm going to attempt to nurse into better health.

I'm confused on how to get it on a time schedule. I've seen posts where people say they have theirs trained to open up at certain times of day. My lighting is on a timer, and I always feed at the same time, but the coral doesn't seem to be adjusting. I notice no particular time of day that the polyps extend other than random periods.

Any suggestions or advice?

Put him under a cave or ledge (as long as you can easily feed him). Squirt him with food during fish feeding time. Give him some time. If you're nursing him make sure to feed all his heads at night. I feed my sun coral pe mysis every night and it has heads growing like crazy. Found 3 babies on my LR.

Definitely put him in the shade mine is pretty much out the entire day because I do feed in the day and night. However, that coral tends to have all feeders out during night so I would suggest feeding at night and when you see it open during the day to feed it as well.

my sun coral is massive. I feed red plankton every day and night and he feeds religiously both times. New polyp growth and increase in the skeletal structure has got bigger.

Ive found that mysis and artemia doesnt fare well simply because they cant get it out of the water column quickly enough. Try frozen red plankton bastered over the coral.

Also, make sure hes got good flow over the coral itself, placement itself is not that important, just make sure about the flow...

im with u kaimarkhirst! I feed mine a mix of zoomax, reef plankton, frozen brine shrimp with omega, cyclops, and sometimes phytoplankton. i mix it in a cup pf tank water and feed them, sometimes 2 times a day!!
