Upon arrival I would let it be for 24-48 hours. At that point you should remove it nightly to a tupperware that you fill with tank water and mysis. Make sure the temperature doesn't drop too much. You are trying to coax it opened. After 10 minutes return it to the tank. Do this each night until it begins to respond. After this you can leave it in the tank and turn the flow off and target feed. You may need a transition period where you put a cut soda bottle over it and put the food in so coax it opened- some people continue to feed it in the soda bottle with the bottom cut off. Feed at least 3x/week, but I would start with higher frequency so that it gets used to opening.
I had one for a while and never tried the soda bottle thing. I felt the amount of food I had to put in the tank to keep it going put a big drain on the bio-load of the system.
In my old 20gal I had a colony with about 10-15 smaller heads. I kept it where the output of my fuge would flow directly onto it, and I think it helped having that constant trickeling of food pouring over it. I got it when it was only 3 heads, and after about 8 months or so it had grown to 10-15.
