Sun Polyp Suggestions

I recently picked up a dying sun polyp from Elmers wanting to play "Coral Whisperer" and bring it back to life. The good news is within 2 weeks I had all the polyps open again. The bad news is I litterally have to sneak up on the coral in total darkness armed with an eye dropper and flashlight to be able to feed him. If I turn the lights on, even the one in the hallway, he immediately begins to close up. Even the flashlight on him during feeding scares him. I have some sun polyps in another tank upstairs and they could care less if the light is on. Half the time they are open in the middle of the day! Does anyone have any suggestions to get him to stay open longer with the light on?

Thanks!

Leave dim light on in the room all the time- they will acclimate. Then use a brighter light once a day when you feed - they wont feed at first but they will start acclimating to the light = food concept. Soon, might take weeks- so feed when ever the polyps are out as well, they will open when the lights come on. The colony you already have was already acclimated to the light/dark these new guys apparently never had a chance. We have a colony in the 20 long refugium of my sons tank with 55 watt PC lights over them - they come out when the lights come on.

Forgot to mention that they sit underneath the Cheato - so not getting direct light from the 55 watt PC.
