Sun Screen and Corals

I read the study: while the idea is interesting, what the study says they prove (that sunscreens from sunbathers can cause bleaching) and what they did prove (that if you put a coral in a plastic bag with sunscreen it will bleach) is not the same thing.

I actually did a lot of research on this today (work related) and I can't find a single study that actually measure the amount of UV protectants from sunblock lotions that end up near corals. The UV absorbers in your sunscreens are so unstable, I wouldn't worry about it too much--there are much worse things in that lotion than the UV absorbers.
 
It would be interesting to see them do a proper follow up to determine actual levels in the ocean. As for actually causing bleaching in the wild, I've seen fairly equal levels of bleaching on remote Caribbean reefs as on fairly popular ones with lots of people around. That however, makes for only anecdotal evidence.
