Sunbrite F Series LED light fixture

Were these chinese design and built lights? If so, it's over. My chinese friends don't even buy chinese products just to put it into perspective.

Heck, americans won't even buy american products. I always hear people complaining about "chinese" products but you have to really put things into perspective. If you want quality, buy quality, tho you will have to pay for it no matter what country it comes from. If you want a good price point thats what you will pay for.

I am buying quality and value. Definitely not coming from chinese imitated products.

About to get my build my led (Texas Based) fixture back tomorrow (overheated power supply) was all covered free ... So I just ordered another custom 10k 72" fixture

I guess my point being, don't bash "chinese" products. They have a place in this economy. As I am sure the Lamborgini owners say the same about the cars we drive. The things we think are quality ie: iphones, galaxy have "chinese" components. Maybe I am a little sensitive because I am chinese :)

Brian, I have chinese in my blood. My wife is half Taiwanese half Filipina. My kids look more chinese than filipino. I worked 6 years in ess technology in Silicon Valley. I have nothing against the people. My ex girlfriend was chinese. Sorry not bashing people just the product that needed more r&d and patent infringement. Fyi, even aquarium depot is considering removing jebao of their products because of quality issues.

Yes jebao does not match the quality of Tunze hence the price difference. There has to be cheaper alternatives so thats why there is a neccesity for the products produced from other places not just China.

The lack of R&D is where jebao saved their money. People buying Jebao or the like products should know they are not going to get superior product/service. Champagne taste on beer budgets.

New SunBrite Users Don't Despair!

Hi all - I've been lurking around reefcentral.com long enough that I thought it was time to register and contribute.

I just bought my first SW setup (used) and it came with a 48" long SunBrite F-series V1. I brought everything home and excitedly installed the Android app on my phone. I downloaded it from their (now defunct) company website. The app didn't work at all, and after reading the company's wonderful :hmm5: manuals I started cursing. Then I found this thread and cursed even louder when I found out the company went out of business .

So why wasn't the Android app working? For some reason, it couldn't 'find' the SunBrite Fxxxx network. When I bought the entire setup, the previous owner used his iPhone app to show me that the lights were working fine. So, off I went to find an old iPhone, iPod, etc... that I could try. My friend lent me her old iPhone to try. Good news - the iPhone could 'see' the SunBrite wifi connection!

So next step was to get the Apple version of the SunBrite app and install it. Easy, right? Nope! It is no longer available on the Apple Store. So after searching around the internet for a long time I came across a posting that directed users to a link to the app (http://www.reefsupplies.ca/sb/). Click on the "app.ipa" file, and save to computer - this is the Apple app for the SunBrite lights.

Now came the 'fun' part - try and install it on your iPhone! [It quickly became apparent why I never bought into the whole Apple thing and have always gone Android!] You need to 'jailbreak' your phone in order to install apps (.ipa files) that are not approved/supported by Apple. So I try to jailbreak the phone, but can't because my friend had updated her iOS to version 8 over-the-air (OTA). I could have downgraded the iOS, but that was a PITA.

So I borrowed an even older iPhone from my friend (which I was allowed to keep). I successfully 'jailbroke' the phone, and figured out how to transfer the file (app.ipa) from my computer to the iPhone, and actually install it (another entire PITA)! Whew hew! The fancy SunBrite light is no longer a really expensive paper-weight! I followed the instructions in the SunBrite manual and changed the connection settings to use a Static IP (see SunBrite manual for Apple connection settings).

Anyways, that was my experience. Android - don't bother. Apple - will work with some perseverance. All of this 'jailbreaking' stuff is quite common, and very easy to do with instructions all over the internet.

Technology - isn't it supposed to make life easier? A pretty ridiculous amount of work just to get a 'remote control' for my SunBrite lights ;)

This really sucks .... especially since I did par readings today and found out that my v3 is putting out about half the par of what it was a year ago........

I don't have an F Series, have friends that do as well. (just happen to be the same friends Scoly has  ) I did a little digging and it looks like the android app is still downloadable at
http://www.sunbritelighting.com/Sunbrite.apk
I can't confirm if it works though, since I don't have an android phone.
No luck finding the iphone app .

Hey has anybody noticed if the iPhone app isn't working correctly ? I noticed that the slide bars to adjust color percentages are missing now

My guess is that something like this will eventually happen to all of us as we update our iOS on various apple products. I'm on a ipad 4 and still running 8.02 and all seems to be functioning as crappy as before.

The apple app is 'working' as well as it always has for me, and the slider bars haven't disappeared.
Not an ideal fix obviously, but you might consider getting an older, used iphone or even a ipod with wifi. And don't ever upgrade the iOS if you get it working properly.
Stupid expensive way to have a remote control, but the lights will turn into a crazy expensive paper weight if we can't operate/customize them. The preset settings using the buttons don't exactly cut it.

I was going to suggest that exact same solution. A friend did that with an old iPhone and works great. Btw... if anyone needs a 3gs for $40 let me know. It was my wife's who barely used it and was in mint condition... Until my daughter dropped it for a weekend and cracked the screen. I can have the screen replaced for another $50.

Sunbrite F Series app?

Sunbrite F Series app?

I did a full wipe of my iPod the other day, which I specifically bought to control the Sunbrite fixture, and now discovered when attempting to reinstall the App that it is no longer available in the App Store! :sad2:

Has anyone figured out a solution for obtaining the App now that it seems to be gone from the Apple App Store? Seems the company has instantly made all of their units useless for anyone without the App already? (and impossible to resell) :mad2:

Read the recent posts above. I provided a link where you can find the Apple App. I just checked the link and the app is still available there. You'll have to 'jailbreak' the iPod then learn how to load apps. I managed to successfully get the app installed on an older iPhone a few months ago (after they went out of business and the app was removed from the Apple Store). It took a lot of reading/learning one night, but it is possible!

Good luck.

Has anyone had success with this process of jail breaking and restoring the app? I did it but when I open the App it says device not found. Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any help.

Canadawest I tried to join ur forum canada aquatics to ask you. How's it working for you the app?
