Sunburst Anthia

I would also not put 1 sunburst in with 3 established lyretails, they will give it crap all day long.

Try smaller stuff. Cyclops and Rotifers. The H2O frozen Coral Food mix is great. Mine loves it and I've had him for 9 months now. Did you see it feed at the LFS or did they just tell you it was eating and been there a month? If it was $28, it's just a little odd it was there so long. Those fish don't stay around my store for about a week at double that price. Just curious of course :)

Also test your tank parameters daily in a QT, especially ammo, trites, and PH. Is the fish able to control himself in the water column? Alot of times these fish are collected badly.

I seen him eat at the LFS. He is a small guy that is why I am thinking he was cheap. The comment about them not sticking around in the LFS is my thought also and that is why I snatched him up. He can control himself so far. I mean he swims when he wants. Nothing out of the norm. I will try the cyclops, I also have cyclopleeze. I will try both of those.

I was told Anthias was a fish that would require many small feedings throughout the day. since I never really heard otherwise I just approaced feeding that way since day 1. I target feed him 4-5 times a day and he never eats alot at one time.

Also he definetly likes small foods more then big food. I feed him a mix of hikari rotti and reef plankton aswell as cyclops. In my tank mysis, blood worms and brine are a treat once a week.

My fish get names when they graduate from qt, his name is Stewy after the lil kid on the family guy, haha he has the same scowl. Post a pic plz.

I try to feed multiple times a day. 4+. I want him fat when I put him in the main tank.
I think I may name this one when he goes in the main tank. Haven't thought of a name yet. Still have a couple weeks.

I don't have 3 lyrentails. The 3 amigos consist of a lyrentail anthias, xmas wrasse, and an Atlantic blue tang. They are the only fish that have been in the tank for sometime now. So I hope they will not pesture him. I have a acclimation tank that I will put him for a week or so when I transfer him. Hopefully that will take some of the aggression away. I am prepared to take out and place into the sump, any of them that shows to much aggression towards him. I lost a Japanese Swallowtail angel that way. One of those 3 picked on the angel and caused it to jump out of the tank. I acclimated her for 3 hours (started at midnight, and put her into the tank at about 3:30 am). I went to bed and woke up at 6:30 am when the lights came on. I looked for the angel, when I noticed she was not in the tank, I started looking around the tank and low and behold there she was dried to the floor behind the tank. $80 down the toilet (literally). That hurt. :mad2: :mad2:

imo you do not need to feed sunbursts multiple times per day. Their behaviour and metabolism is different to other anthias species.
However, it's not a bad thing to do if you're trying to get the fish to eat in QT. Make sure you are keeping all the params spot as they can easily go out in small QT tanks.

What ever he does not eat, I try to net out of the tank. Then I do a 1 gallon water change every other day. As far as alk,, Ph, I use 2 part alk. I try to monitor really closely

i wanna keep 1 in my 30g. but then its too small for such beauty
Not sure. I guess it comes down to how big it is. I don't think a 30 is too small, but I wouldn't go any smaller.

30 is a good size for one sunburst, imo. They're solitary and relatively inactive compared to other anthias.

2nd on BangkokMatt: Sunbursts does not need multiple feedings per day. My pair of Ventralis get fed once a day. (Not that I wanted to.. but I am not home during the day) The pods in my refugium will have to help out.

Yeah, how is your sunburst doing, lilchris..? :D

lilchris - How is the sunburst doing?
She is doing great. I have her feeding pretty good right now. I will put her in the display tank in a couple of days. I am away from home for a training session. I am going to put her in an acclimation container due to the 3 larger fish I have in there already. I have a lyrentail, xmas wrasse, and an Alantic blue tang. Hopefully they play nice.
