Sunburst/Fathead Anthias differences?

Does anyone know if their are any variation between the Fiji, Indonesian, or Vanuatu Sunburst/Fathead Anthias? The reason I'm asking is I was at a LFS recently and I saw a HUGE sunburst close to 6-7 inches long. It was bigger than my Yellow Tang. I've never seen one that big and was wondering if it had anything to do with the location they're collected from.

I am looking to order two this coming weekend on the smaller side from a much better LFS but would like the chance of the pair getting that size. Unfortunately I am not supporting the store I saw them in anymore after seeing a bunch of illegal fish/wildlife that included two hammer head shark pups that were about 15-19" long.

We get them locally; a few years back imported ones were also available. As far as I could tell the fish look the same markings wise, except for large males which were more stunning, irrespective of origin.

I have seen some at 5" total length but not bigger. :eek1: Maybe you saw a 'supermale'?' The local ones are available in dribs and drabs, so it's possible larger ones are around.

Hope that helps.

I will order two and just see what happens. That fish was impressive though. Definitely the biggest anthias I've ever seen.

I've head that these fish get big but never seen it personally. I've had individuals for several years two separate times and they never get any larger than the standard ~2-3" ones you usually see at LFS...

That's why I thought it could be a certain location, but whatever I'll just order two and see what happens.
