Sunpod HQI help

I am looking at upgrading to the 2x250w HQI Sunpod for my 55 gal. I talked with Marine Depot, and they said that this unit uses an electronic ballast, while the website says its magnetic. Does anyone know which is right?

Also, can you upgrade the ballast on these units? I know the ballast is external, but I would like to switch to a PFO magnetic if possible.

Thanks for your post, I sent an email to Current USA to answer your question correctly as soon as I receive a reply I will pass the information along to you, thanks for being patient. As far as your second question goes you will not be able to upgrade the ballast with out modifying the units connects to the ballast. Keep in mind any modifications to the unit will void any warranties that is offered by the manufacturers. These light fixtures have a one year limited warranty from the date of purchase.

Thanks for your patience, I received a reply from Ike at Current USA regarding your question. He said that "Yes, the ballast on the 250 watt units is a remote magnetic M80 fan cooled ballast."
