Sunrise

Not the greatest photo but it sure was fun being there to take it :)

What's the lumpy / nubbly / sandy stuff in the foreground? Some sort of termite mound or ant hill?

Beautiful pic too. Fortunately, I don't need the mop for this one. :)

It's from Mono Lake. Those are Tufa formations. They were originally formed under water from volcanically driven mineral springs.

Interesting. I've used "tufa rock" in freshwater tanks and it was very reddish, though I suppose its color depends on exactly which minerals are spewed forth during its creation.

One thing I have found now living so close to the equator, the "golden hour" in the morning lasts about two minutes. Sunset is a little more forgiving.
This shot was taken literally seconds after the sun broke the horizon. I was waiting for it to hit the birds and they were waiting to "warm" up.

Not too many early risers in this group. ;)

First light on Cook's Meadow in Yosemite yesterday:

Very cool, I like how the field has a frost line that has thawed, that is an excellent shot. It perfectly captures what a brisk early spring morning feels like, imo.

Thanks. It was actually snow, but Yosemite valley is only 4000 feet (which is pretty low for snow in California). Anywhere the sun was shining, the snow was already gone.

Awesome shot. Reminds me of first couple steps out of a tent and taking a deep morning breath. I can completely feel the temperature and briskness in the air in this photo.

I never get up early enough to see the sunrise, but I might have to start. these pictures are gorgeous. really makes you appreciate nature.
