super glue group buy

Gathering interest on a group buy for super glue gel from BSI (IC-gel)
http://www.bsi-inc.com/Pages/hobby/ca.html
I contacted them and if I can purchase a minimum of 72 20gram tubes, I can get 40% off there retail of $7 a tube. This would make it approx $4.20 a tube with free shipping. This is equivalent to buying 5 packages of double tube gels from a walmart or lowes. I believe that bsi superglue gel is the stuff that alot of reef stores carry....I just decided to contact them directly. Previous reef clubs I have been associate with have ran this group buy and everyone comes out with a lot of quality glue. Let me know if your are interested and if we can get a minimum order, I will run this group buy if you all prepay. I will have to either arrange to pick up at Phishy Business or close to Zanesville...depends on interest.

Hoping to get around 35 reefers for 2 tubes each....like buying 10 packs of double tube packages.

I have posted this on CORA, RC_CORA, and RC_C-SEA. Here is the current list:

1. zensaiyan: 10
2. shmax: 2
3. shark keeper: 4
4. kev2me: 4
5. mjlewis: 2
6. icu2: 3

thanks everyone for the suggestions, i appreciate the help. we are going to try a group buy with BSI because i know and trust this company. they have a quality product that i am familiar with. please only post if you are interested in the group buy.

super glue gell at the dollar store. Cheaper better does the job....

Do the math TomNeely, No where's close to being cheaper. He is quoting a price for a 20 oz bottle. That would be what 10 double packs at the dollar store.

So in fact making this Cheaper Better and does the job :)

I'll take 2

I understand what you're saying, but Tom is correct though. It's just Cyano-acrylate glue... packaging it under another label doesn't make it "better" or change the formula to make it reef safe. You can buy very large quantities from carpentry suppliers I believe, but they have different consistencies. Ranging from thin to thick (thick closer resembling gel).

A lot of products we use in this hobby are not meant for the hobby. Meaning they were not specifically created for aquarium use. The markup most companies choose to add by packaging it as such is a crock IMO.

Here is a place where you can purchase large quantities of it.

http://woodenwonderstx.com/WWBlue/NewGlueWS.html

2oz = 56 grams
8oz = 227 grams
16oz = 454 grams

Anyway... good luck with the group buy, hopefully you can hit your mark.

The weights the original poster quoted are in grams, and is the way most superglue is sold.

20 grams = 0.71 oz.

Which is my biggest complaint with superglue... they always sell it in such small quantities. 10 grams is about the largest I have seen available at a Lowes or Home Depot, and most are in 2 to 4 gram bottles or tubes. So if you do a lot of fragging or mounting, you end up blowing throw a tube in no time.

Nope Erik, 20 grams... It is the IC-Gel that most places sell for $7.50-10.00.

I am surprised that not many people were interested in buying the 2 oz bottles from ChiefReef when we had the group buy. They were selling the 2oz (3 times the IC-Gel tubes) for $6 which is a great deal and it is the really thick stuff.

I have used IC-Gel and liked it but I see no huge difference in it compared to the non-branded super thick gel stuff.

I also don't see any savings if I have to drive to Columbus or Zanesville to pick up the tubes. I appreciate trying to save a few bucks but I think this item might not be a cost savings in the long run for any of us who are not going to be int he area for some other reason already.
