superman getting worse

I posted a few weeks ago that the top part of my superman montipora was turning brown. the polyps r still red but the blue tissue was loosing its color. now I can see some algea growing on those parts. its rite next to my sunset monti, which is doing great. its getting good flow and is 8 inches from the top of the tank. the 250w metal halide is about six inches under the glass. any suggestions. I just turned my lights up to 6 hours instead of 5 yesterday and added the vortech pump last friday.

move them down some there getting to much light imo. if its possible middle to bottom of your tank

"superman getting worse"..........maybe it needs some kryptonite?? ;)

hahahaha totally kidding! It was the first thought that came up when I saw the title. Anyways I know someone that had a similar situation and they moved it mid tank and not directly under the light and it colored up nicely after a while! Good luck with yours :)

Sounds like to much light to me. How long have you had the superman and have you changed any thing to do with the lighting?

Browning could be any number of things, but I usually notice it from the following:

- Not enough light (intensity)
- Too long of a photoperiod (duration)
- Improper flow
- High phosphates

I thought not enough light also. I ran my halides for 5 hours a day now I d six. and I ran my actintics for 12 now I do 14. good thing I don't pay an electric bill. I moved it down about six inches so we'll see how it does there.

I think i posted on your original thread about mine superman doing the same thing. I moved it pretty close to the bottom of the tank (I have an AP24). Although it is not 100 percent better it is starting to lighten in the places where it should be blue. So I am hopeful. Good luck

yea I thi k I remember your post. thanks. mine is now halfway down my 24 in deep tank. and not directly under the 250w bulb. im hopeful it returns to its nice color, although most of the coral is still bright blue. the polyps don't stick out quite as far as they used to either.
