Superman Monti pics

Superman, as far as I am conserened is based on coloration. I don't really know where all this "linegage" stuff came from.

I mean, take superman rodactis (sp?) mushrooms for example, that is just a color morph of a rodactis mushroom, nothing to do with lineage. Sure you might have differences between the different species of montipora, but a superman is a superman if it has the red and blue. And I can near to guarantee you that if you tried to sell a Superman frag that is supposedly related to the original superman, that you would NOT get more for it...so there really is no point.

Anywho..........

Awesome corals guys, and heck, I like 'em all:)

Wow mbierzyc!! You're not kidding, that is one awesome looking coral.
And I agree with texreefer, my piece was advertised as, and I bought it as a "Superman"....so damit, its a "Superman".......LOL

None the less I love it.

It fascinates me how everyone always argues over names. if you bought it as a Superman. then thats what it is.. I have a frag that was bought as a Superman and it looks like a Superman so therefore it IS a Superman,, how do you think the first one got its name? It LOOKED like a Superman so it was a Superman.. all the above look like Superman and were probably sold as Supermans so as far as im concerned they are Supermans.. WoW did I say Superman enough,, ok now all you experts can tell me how closed minded I am
I agree with you as I still call all blue encrusting montis with red polyps superman montis, but as I said earlier:

Not all blue(ish) with red(ish) polyp encrusting montis look exactly the same.
That's when the lineage matters. I don't want to buy just any kind of superman monti if I'm trying to get the one that looks as good as the original. JMO

The largest I was able to grow one was about the size of a softball.

The lineage Superman monti glfat65 has referred to has been in captivity since about 2002. The one thing that has kept it popular is its HUGE red polyps, and I mean RED. It's color of red will give a flame angel a run for its money. It's easily the reddest animal in my tank. It's pretty easy to color up as well, and I haven't come across another monti with polyps this red. I wish the polyps weren't so big because they block a lot of the blue body.

It first wowed people in 2003 when it appeared on ROBZ's October 2003 TOTM thread.

The careful observer will notice the Pink Lemonade and a few other suprises as well.
