Supermarin 250 Tubing

In the configuration I need to fit my SM250 into my sump, the tubing which goes from the RD3 to the Air diffuser is much too short to reach.

It's not great that RE doesn't supply ample length tubing for a config that is possible with the unit but that is neither here nor there.

Do you know what type of tubing it is and what size I would need in Imperial measurements so I could pick some up locally? ID looks like 3/8". OD looks like 5/8".

Or, if at all possible, can I get the proper tubing at the right length thru RE USA?
That would be amazing.

Thanks
John

John,
We have the tubing in our warehouse in Fort Myers. I'm surprised to hear that the tubing is too short - usually from the factory there is at least an inch or two extra that may need to be trimmed.
Also on the SM250's, ships with an extension tube from the factory, for when one uses the port opposite of the skimmer exit.

In the following picture, I've marked an arrow to the tube, it has a short piece of red PVC for a nipple to connect the tubing to the other tube.

Send me a PM if you cannot find it...

Thanks,
Marco

Sorry Marco. You are absolutely correct. I just checked the box and there is connection and a few more inches of tubing in there for this exact purpose.

Maybe I should try reading next time. :-)

Thanks so much for the quick reply. You guys rock!

BTW, I have a container I would like to use for overflow from the skimmer cup. What tubing can I use for that?

Here's how I have mine connected to my container. The stock drain line connects to a Magnum quick disconnect 1/2" valve. The other side has some 1/2 semi flexible tubing connected to it via some 1/2 vinyl tubing. The half inch semi rigid stuff is then connected to a John Guest style fitting on the jug.
This is the valve I use that I connected to the skimmer drain line.

This is my drain setup. The only time I use the disconnects is when I remove the collection cup. When i drain the container, I just unscrew the cap. I keep the valves closed during normal operation so I can see the skimmate production and know if things are working properly.

Here is a close up of the drain connection to the valve and the other side of the valve leading to the container.

Thanks for all the detail. This is the container I was going to use. Its from an old MTC beckett style skimmer I've had for years.

That will be fun to connect to.. I would get some of those valves above and modify that container to support 1/2" vinyl tubing if it doesn't already. That union valve I linked to above will work with the drain line of the cup and the other end would work with 1/2" vinyl tubing.

That said, I had the same type of container when I ran a beckett skimmer several years back. Unlike a beckett skimmer, that container with the ping pong ball will not stop the airflow to the bubble king so keep that in mind. Once that container fills up, it's going to backup with skim mate beyond the container where as with a beckett skimmer, the air supply is effectively cut off when that ping pong ball rises and blocks the lid vent.

Didn't realize the ping pong ball wouldn't work. Thanks for alerting me otherwise I would have found out the hard way.:-) But at least I can use the unit at the top for carbon to kill the smell.

Glad to help.. I like my 1.5 gallon nalgene jug.. It works good and the lid keeps the smell away.
