i bought a supersun coral about a month from today however i notice the tentacles are not as sticky as before anyone experience this before? FYI i meant the abillity to grab food is getting weak :(

Could you share with us your feeding frequency and what you have been feeding it since you brought it home?

thanks

Mike

i feed it everyday with PE mysis/hikari mysis/rotifer/cyclopeeze/prawn/squid/oyster DT/phyto. I usually feed with them with hikari mysis mix with rotifer and oyster DT about 4 times a week and shredded prawn meat twice a week followed by PE mysis once a week.

I have only been keeping sun corals, dendros, and rhizos for about a year, but from what I have learned. Every flavor reacts differently to different things. Dendros and rhizos seem to follow the same exact rules.

1) Yelllow and orange are much more forgiving.
2) Small changes in water parameters, especially salinity make them pretty unhappy. I have noticed mine tend to do slightly better around 1.023 than 1.026..but the difference is only noticable because I spend too much time paying attention to them.
3) Larger, healthy colonies are able to withstand changes in many aspects, much better than smaller colonies
3) Even my healtiest colonies will go through periods where they tenticles appear more shriveled and generally are not quite as 'sticky' as you put it. Generally (assuming all other factors are good), I see new heads appear within the next week or two. Not sure exactly what the correlation is, but thus far, I contribute this to growth. Again, i don't notice this as much on larger colonies, but is very prevalant on smaller colonies.
4) Don't overfeed. This can cause stress on the coral, as it will try to consume everything you feed it. I have had bailout from too much feeding.
5) don't underfeed..obvious reasons.
5) I find that food about the size of Ocean Nutrition Mysis is about the right size. I feed many differeing types of meaty foods, but all about that size and seem to be consumed well.
6) Some people subscribe to lots of small particles in the water, I find they do fine with reasonable feedings every 2-4 days.

Thanks for sharing your experience with me :)

have you ever encounter supersun fading?

Hopefully i see new heads or spawning :) as i notice its the healthiest supersun that is not as sticky

Any idea how big of meat should i feed my rhizo and how often?

With parameters in line, you can get away with feeding each Rhizotrochus typus a 1/2 to a full block of mysis daily (Hikari or PE) as well with the addition of cyclop-eeze. Prawns you can feed once in a while as an additional dietary supplement as well as with the oysterfeast (a lot of other creatures in tank can use the oyster feast & rotifers ;)). Noticed the stickiness to get lost more often when long term feeding of dry feeds, more than 2x a week, has also had the same effect on tubastea's ability to natually catch food.

oh speaking of cyclopeeze how do you actually know if they are feeding on it as i cant see any cyclopeeze being consume. So i should not feed dry feeds to tubastea?

noted will feed mysis to rhizo more often then prawn then :)

IME you can overfeed Sun Corals. Everyday is too much. I feed mine every other and they are so much happier.
