just came from K-mart and they had the blue LED Christmas lights for $9.99, we got 2 sets. there were a few threads last year about these lights. i believe they fire at 460nm and are great for moon lights or pointed at individual corals for some extra pop.

Oh! Good idea Chris.
reminds me i still havent installed my cold cathode blue moon light kit. Its good to have options to choose from. I bought one of these dual 6 inch cold cathode tube sets with itty-bitty ballast last year. so since you reminded me i layed them across the VHO lamps again, with lights out. and they too make things glow. nice even light. for a bit brighter effect i would get the dual 12 inch set. and a 12 volt DC transformer from walmart, or somewhere.
you can get a cold cathode light kit here. or perhaps a local computer stores.

here comes christmas. great little gift. these blue CC's must also be around 450-470 nm. the coral tips light right up.

they look pretty cool Ken.

the thing i like about the christmas lights is you dont have to do anything to them but hang them and plug them in. they come with 50 bulbs per string but if you only want to use say 6 bulbs you just pull the other bulbs out that are down line.

Thats good Chris, I guess the christmas lights are outdoor water proof sets too. the cold cathodes run on 12 V DC and have a ballast to bump it up to 900 V DC . so they need a little DC transformer to feed the ballast. hey, as long as they look good! there's something new every year.
do the clams like them and display soaking up a little moon light?

i haven't hooked them up yet. im planing to put them on the 180, so the clams wont see them.

BTW there have been some major changes done over here in the last few months Barb and I have redone both tanks (striped to bare glass :eek2: ) so things have been shaky but are coming around now.

I think I may go and grab a couple of those.

And stripping to bare glass sounds pretty drastic.....something happen? But it is good that things are coming around.

Chris
