Supplementing Before Use

I have a garbage can full of Reef Crystals saltwater for water changes and was wondering if I can add supplements to the the water instead of the reef tank.
Your response is greatly appreciated. Thanx

Depends realy. If the suppliments contain organics, like vodka, vinegar, vitemin C...etc than they will begin to grow bacteria in that water. Other things like bumping up Ca, Alk, Mag can be done before hand, but be careful with how much you add. New saltwater is usualy fiarly close to saturation, and addind some suppliments can cause precipitation.

I agree that we need to know what you're adding. Bumping up the magnesium, alkalinity, and calcium levels a bit would be fine. Organics definitely will rot fairly quickly.

Reef Crystals mixes with CA of around 450 and ALK at around 10 (Mag is high also) right out of the box. Not sure what you are looking to add but I don't think anything additional would be needed?

Edit.....holy crap you have a lot of posts bertoni lol.

I think the good part about dosing is adding stuff between water changes to keep the ca / mg / Alk levels stable. It's prolly better to use a salt mix that gets you pretty close to where you want to be right after the change and then use the doses to keep it there until the next change. And def not carbon like vodka or vinegar, like stuff you are adding for critters to eat should go right into the tank.
