Sure flow mod on koralias?

I'm wondering if anyone on here has used the Algae Free Sure Flow maxijet mod on their koralias, and if so how it has worked. I know some people have done it before, but I'm not sure how well it worked. I just ordered one of the mods for a maxijet, but I think I might try it out on one of my k4's instead.

I've done it and the output is incredible. I had to saw/dremel off the Koralia's propeller and then superglue the Sure Flow's propeller on top of the K's magnet. Its easily twice as strong as the original propeller. Its been over a year and the superglue has held very well.

why would you cut off the propeller the mangnet in the kit works in the Koralia and then you can change the propeller form the 1600 to the 2000 gh one thing i found that you can cut every other of the fins off of the cover and this will help with algae building up

I think I was using the stock SureFlow propeller for my Maxijet, so I didn't have a propeller for the K4, so I had to mod it if I wanted to run both my MJ and K4 with the SureFlow Mod.

yeah, it creates way more flow. I used the sure flow mod and just dropped in the black prop/magnet combo because the black blends in, it is night/day improvement.

Thanks guys! That is exactly what I wanted to hear.

So do you think if I mod 2 of my k4's with the white propellor and then a k3 with the black propellor that will be enough flow for a 180 gallon sps reef? Right now I'm using 2 k4's and 2 k3's, but my sps are turning into colonies that require more flow.

Don't hold me to it but i've heard that the mod only works on K4's because of the impeller size. You may be able to MazdaSPD3 did and cut the stock prop off the magnet and just use the new propeller. Google it...

IFBettas where did you get the Sureflow mod?

It will drastically reduce the lifespan of the pumps if you do this. I did it to 8 and lost 50% of the pumps within 6 months. IMO do not try it. They are not as strong a motor as maxi-jets.

I lost all four of my k4's with this mod. They lasted around 6 months and all died within 2 weeks of each other. Put them on maxis and going strong for a year.

Why does the mod shorten the pumps life? Isn't the mod only putting a bigger propellar on the same magnet and everything? I think it's worth the risk that they might die if the flow really is superior. I'm going to try it out and see if I like it. If it doesn't work how I want, I have a couple maxijets laying around that I can mod.

I could be wrong but it sounds like the mods put excess strain on the motor, and if the motor was not designed to handle the excess strain then it would be a matter of time before the motor overheats and burns up-stops working. Heat is usually the rude of all evil for motors.

What I was told is you have to run the magnet that comes with the mod. The k-4 stock magnet is not big enough to push the mod prop effectively. I wonder if that is what strains the motor, or if running the bigger magnet does.

I'm going to do a lot of experimentation on the k4 mods before I decide if I'm going to risk using them in my DT or not.

I'm also going to find out if the stock magnet of a k3 will support the smaller black prop if used in a k3. I know that the big prop wouldn't fit, but the smaller one might work nicely.
