surface scum

Hi I have tons of junk floating on the surface of my water, I am just using LR and skimmer on my tank for filtration. Is there an easy way to get this scum off the surface? I'll take any suggestions.

Pointing some powerheads at the water surface to get good agitation helps some, IME. If you can get a preskimmer for the skimmer, that can help, too.

people say you can drop a paper towel over it and then just pull it all off and throw it away

Id recommend a regular filter such as a penguin or aqua clear. that'll clear right up

The more surface gas exchange, the better.

is your water level higher than usual, if so one of your prefilters might be cloged just rinse it out and the flow will increase and the scum/oil will filter out... i know from many times of experience
