Surface Scum

I was on vacation for a few weeks and the tank was seriously overfed, and then crashed. Some of the fish suffocated, and now it's currently cycling. However, it's looking better every day.

I have a siphon overflow on this tank that seems to collect surface scum. I occasionally try to skim it with a bowl when I do water changes, but what to people do about this? Can I use some floss and a sieve to take it off?

The overflow has a collection of scum as well. I've been using a turkey baster to suck out the scum because it floats and won't be taken up by the siphon.

btw, the only survivors were the tomato clowns. I have two rose anemones from a previous split, and one of these has split again. The only good thing is that I now have 3 rose anemones. The clowns seem confused as they move from anemone to anemone giving each some loving.

Sorry to hear about your tank :( The scum is probably from excess protein in the tank.

I've used a brine shrimp net to remove surface scum. It's not that efficient, but it sort of works.

You might want to adjust your powerheads to break the surface more, as this can help cleaning up the scum.

are you by any chance using a Remora C with the internal oveflow
If so take the internal overflow off and run with out it
