hi all im in the process of getting my 90 up and running and am gonna have a surge setup in it

how bout some advice?
i was thinking a 1 1/2 hole 2/3 up from the bottom to help with not disturbing the sand
it will be fed from a 10 gallon aquarium mounted behind the stand in a corner
advice would be greatly apreciated as i will be working on it in the next few days

sorry i cant post a pic i cant up load any .jpg images

I have a custem made surdge device that I can sale you that has everything to it and it will take up less room than a 10gl

I have an OceansMotion Sea Squirt and would reccommend them to everyone- almost no maintenence, easy setup and unlimited plumbing possibilities...

rockstar what kind of surge device is it?
i was thinking sort of a toilet valve setup
ne advice on what i should go for?
(i want quiet and reliable)
i think a mag 3 for feeding will work

send me a e-mail and I will send pics.It works kind like a toilet valve it has a plundger inside of it and a float .When it gets full it lifts the plundger and the water flows out.

Gman,

Keep it simple. Forget the DIY stuff for the time being. Get your 90 going and stable before worrying about surge devices, your fish and last coral wins at the raffle are depending on you : D

as far as the surge is concerned i was going to go with a variation of a closed loop .
the tank drilled but driven by a pump for a few seconds than shut off untill next cycle (i figure every 1-5 mins 20-45 sec cycle duration)
therefore i wont have a air bubble problem (pump will have its own intake hole drilled in the back also, and be most likely sitting in the sump comstantly flooded waiting for its next cycle and water cooled by the sump water flow)

now the type of pump- mag drive or direct drive

i figure the dd pump will be an almost instant on surge verses the mag that will need a few seconds to get up to speed (pressure) and generate a more realistic surge (wave like surge verses a sudden gush of water)
please chime in on this as i have one of each type of pump

stand update all trim is on
next step sanding ,stain killing (stand will be painted a gloss white to blend into the apartments walls) ,painting and varnishing (clear coat)

well sump is finished and water tested and works well

as far as the surge goes i purchased a 1 1/2 inch bulkhead fitting from wet pets and am planning to use my quiet one 6000 to power the surge dont know if it will fit though
i was also thinking of a mag 3
the mag 5 i have has a 1/2 inch output so i guess the mag 3 would too
with a `1 1/2 pipe for the surge line i dont think i will have enough force for a good enough surge
what do u recomend for the pump size
my quiet one is a 1500 gph pump but i dont trust it for a permenant pump because the output connector broke off and now i have a 1 inch pvc fitting on it glued with pvc cement ( the kind to permenantly glue pvc with the purple primer )
it looks like it will work but i just dont trust it enough

have to wait untill next week to have my tank drilled the glass shop needs to get a 2 inch diamond glass cutting bit
