Surge Protection, sorta OT

Anyone have a whole house surge protection system connected to their panel box? I have seen these being used on DIY shows and wonder if they work.
It be nice to have some piece of mind that those items for my tank and house that are not on surge protectors(and I know some strip surge protectors are jokes) have some protection.

I have one on the whole house....as for how long they last and what the joule rating on it is....no clue.

I have installed a few and it is the same as always the more you spend the better the rating. check with your insurance agent you might get a discount if you have one installed
