Swallowtail Angelfish (genicanthus sp.) Question

Not Likely 2 Ever Grow Up
Does anyone in the club have a Swallowtail Angelfish (genecanthus species)? We are picking ours up at the Critter this weekend - a Genecanthus Melanospilos (Blackspot Angelfish, but also referred to as the Japanese Swallowtail Angelfish).

This is our "final" fish on our stocking list, and the one I know the least about. Just thought if someone had some experience with this type of Angel, they might be able to pass along some tips on keeping them healthy and happy.

Here is a link to a photo on BlueZoo of what she looks like:

Maybe Chuck will chime in as he is an Angel fish lover and keeper. I do not recall ever seeing that particular Fish in a LFS so IMO they are not a commonly sold fish that lots of people will know about. If it will eat all those variety of foods it should do OK.

I Kept a similar fish years ago. they are different from other angels in that they dont eat greens. they prefer a diet of free swimming in the water column. that makes them very reef safe as they dont dine on your corals. that said, many are from the deeper reefs and most problems arise in them in that they arent brought up slow enough and suffer from swim bladder issues. jsut make sure it is not swimming head down or angled much.

that are really pretty fish and i will be getting one myself. I had a Watanebie female that I had for several years. she mysteriously died. I always wanted another but she was replaced by a powder brown tang.

some big collector died this past week collecing personifer angels i believe which are relatives of these that live at like 400 ft deep.

Rob Lower passed away, he was collecting personatus angels (close Lindsay), bandit angels and other deepwater species in Hawaii.

You have a higher chance of genicanthus angels not eating corals, but they have been known to do it. It's not quite as common, but do some searching in the Reef Fishes forum and you'll find some angry reefkeepers.

I've got a pair of lamarck (well, two ladies, hopefully one will go to the other side) angels in my tank. I think the fish are gorgeous with the long streamers.
