Swap dates for 2011

I have never been to a frag swap. If I go do I have to bring frags to trade or can I just purchase?

For the most part unless you arrange to "swap" with someone before the show there is not much "trading" going on so much a bunch of vendors or hobbyists with tables selling frags. I am sure there are exceptions, but think it more of an older term and is probably more accurately described as a "frag sale" now.

So short answer is no you dont have to bring anything to the swaps.

NYReefClub presents our

The True Swap, draft style...[/B]
The location has been set for the swap... It will be held at PLAY, March 13, 2011 11am-4pm
77-17 Queens Blvd. NY 11373

And the number one draft pick goes to............
member #1 JCS1236 Congratulations Julio.

The swap format will be run in similar fashion to the NBA Draft. We will have over a 150-200 coral frags from softies, LPS, and SPS.
The person with the #1 draft pick will pick first but only have 30 seconds to choose. The person with the #2 draft pick will pick second, and so on.

You can trade your draft pick with other members and side deals sounds like its gonna be a lot of fun. So there will be swapping going on during the the swapping draft lol.

Funny thing is that all the coral will be available for viewing and inspection, but just before the swap (er) draft we will shuffle the frags jars around on the table.

Hope to see ya'll there.

good question

good question

I have tickets to the Frozen four college hockey finals which are here.
It is doubtful the Gophers are going to make it, so I have not decided.
Sell the tix and doing a swap or just enjoy the hockey regardless of who makes it in.

2011 Monster Swap
Sunday, April 17th at 12pm MASM will be hosting it's annual Monster frag exchange/swap.

Vendor setup starts at 10am and the door open to the public at 12 noon.

Im still pretty new to all this, and dont mean to be off topic, but...when swapping at these types of events, should I be concerned about disease or transfer of issues?

Normally you would acclimate the coral to your tank conditions (ie: drip method or gradually add tank water to coral container) and then perform a dip of some sort (ie: Revive, iodine, etc) to get rid of unwanted pests/bacteria before placing into tank.

Ideally you'd quarantine newly acquired corals but this is not always possible.

Diaz,
You should be concerned about disease or transfer from coral at a swap no more or no less than you do purchasing coral a pet shop, online vendor or a friend. you should always inspect, drip & if possible quarantine newly acquired coral.
