Sweet Blue Gargonian

I just picked these up and since there is no softy forum I will share it with you guys. They are really blue and every polyp opened up after 10 mins of being in the tank.

That is really gorgeous! I saw those at Sharky's but the piece was huge. I was looking for something saround 3x3x5", or smaller. What kind of lighting is it under & where do you have it in the tank? Lemme know how it does. My purple "seawhip" gorgonian is doing ok. Can't wait to get my T5s next month!

yeah i got them from sharkys. I have them under 20k MH and in moderate flow and indirect light.

Good luck,they dont last in the tank just like GONI. I tried placed'em tank of their own together w/ DENDROS. & Sunflowers, all non photosyntetic corals still no luck. PEACE

Ereefic I actually got that huge piece for $25 when they were running their specail. They usually sell them for around $50 which is a great deal. A while ago I got a 1 inch frag for $20 at Reef Dweller and I thought that was a good at that time. They ended up disappearing in my tank because I couldnt keep them anchored down.

I believe the blue ones you got are photosynthetic. The orange, reds are non-photo.

They are beautiful. Good luck with them. I've been looking for those myself.

menard is correct they will not last long. I have never heard of anyone having one thrive grow or even live past a few months. I have been told they need to be spot fed not photsynthetic. Good luck

I think with some of the new foods one the Market (DTs oyster eggs, and the new premium reef blend), that there is good hope for keeping things like these alive. I know of 2 nice purple sea fans that have been doing will and growing for well over a year.

I considered getting one of those as well. I did a little searching around RC. 0% success rate from what I have read (success measured in years). They are filter feeders. It's unfortunate, as they are so beautiful!

I also picked one up from Sharky's as well. He said that the blue-polyped ones in particular have been doing very well in his clients tanks. So I decided to take a chance on them.

I have mine under 130 pc in a 29. I feed the tank frozen mysis one day, and the new enriched DT's phyto the next. I placed it in a medium flow area. When I put the mysis in, I can see the direction of the water and it basically goes right through the sea fan.

So, I am crossing my fingers. When I went to Sharky's, I mentioned that I heard they were really hard to keep, and he said that THOSE in particular were not that difficult. However, when I went home and researched more, I didn't find any personal testimony that someone has kept them successfully long term. The basic consensus is that they starve to death by about a year.

In any case, I bought it, and now I'll try my best! It looks pretty good right now--really long polyp extension. We'll see...
