SwirlyWirley's 170G rimless cube build w/ fish room

Not much to post fish related today other than i worked on hanging the ceiling drywall in the office, finished framing in the fish room and the dosing container came.

As for the house heres whats happening, to keep things interesting:

I am doing a tile wall behind our headboard

Entryway complete other than curtain pulls and custom banisters

Wall painted and suede Vant panels hung

Powder room is done, i installed the soap and lotion dispensors after the picture

Last but not least we got all the custom cornices and dolphin grey wood blinds hung throughout the house.

Who made your dosing containers? Why did you put the sump under the stand instead of the back room?

Advanced acrylic made it. The reason that sump is underneath the stand is because I have a custom made industrial sump in production right now.its a 54x24x16 pvc sump we designed. It will be located on the wall underneath the electronic panels. The sump underneath the tank will still be in use, I have no reason to get rid of it would cost too much to ship and everyone wants to design their own sumps these days.

So quick update, this little guy came in the mail tolday 20x20x8 frag tank! The big boy is still in production along with we are getting my sump all squared away.

We made some changes after this quick approval sketch, but heres a good representation

Very small update, ceilings finished in the office i am about ready to start mudding. Also began running Conduit for the sump and frag tank wiring.

Well before heading off on vacation I got the horse stall mat cut and put into place. The RODI wall is all done with the BRS unit partially Complete.

Agenda for when I get back: I need to finish drywall/mudding in the fish room, as well as installing a door. Once that's done I can finish plumbing the RO waste to my sump pump. Still trying to assess how I'm going to remove the saltwater waste from AWC. Part of me wants to connect it via saddle to the piping that's after the basement sump pump. That way it will exit without ever coming in contact with the pump ( not sure long term affects of salt water on a sump pump)

Part of my set of PVC/acrylic setup from advanced acrylics. The set will consist of custom industrial sump, frag tanks, refugium and ATO reservoir

I was able to score two stenner 170dm5's for an excellent price. Both will be controlled by my apex. One will be used for AWC, which will more than likely change about two gallons a day. The second pump will have one head removed and be used for my ATO pump. Read so many good things about these stenner peristaltic pumps. Pics will be up as soon as I get them mounted!

So I returned from vacation to a ton of packages! Some I will show today, some tomorrow. I have alot on my agenda for tomorrow so bear w/ me and hopefully by tomorrow night we will have quite a bit of updates. Here's what came in while I was away:

Stenner 170dm5... I was already playing with it :). Second one comes this week

Random fittings and such I ordered in bulk because I knew I'd need them.

Before I a$$ out, does anyone know where I can get about a 2'x4' piece of fiberglass Grating (grey or black) for reasonable price?

To end the night I thought long and hard about what I was doing. I had an excellent start to what will be my most extensive hobby. I invested in industrial fish room equipment for what? To power a 180g cube? Not set in stone yet, but I believe I may be selling off the cube, sump and stand. I have adequate space to house a 300g peninsula and I think that will be about as big as I go, at least in this house :)

I'm sure you know this already, but those metal shelves are going to rust bad. I would replace them with wood when you get a chance.

How new are you to the hobby? I would suggest running the 180, maybe installed off to the side of where a future 300 would go. Learn your chops before going any bigger. I've been doing this for 10+ years and I'm still learning. Mistakes can become overwhelming on a large tank. There's so much knowledge that goes into a successful reef, and a lot of it comes from trial and error. Errors are so much easier to fix on a smaller scale.

I had a 60g cube prior to this build, had it for quite some time. decided to break it down before i moved. It was just to overwhelming of a move to have to worry about jumping into setting up a tank. Although i am breaching the surface of things like AWC, i am knowledgeable enough to build a 300. Im also a Biology major w/ a certificate in a career that is very chemistry intensive. I do appreciate your concern though, my heart was just never dead set on a cube :(

As for the stands they are anodized, shouldnt rust. If they begin to show any signs of rust or corrosion i will take them to a buddy that owns a powdercoating shop.

Stenner #1 mounted - This is dedicated to my auto water change system

Began putting the "vinyl chair rail" up and finished a bit more of the conduit. Was able to stop by Home Depot and grab a few supplies. Wiring shall begin friday or so!

SOHAL!! I would love to own this fish, just too bad it's an aggressive breed.

Yesterday the last Stenner came in so I was able to get that mounted. Today also begins wiring everything, so pictures should be uploaded later today.

Been trucking away at the office as well. Got most of the walls taped and mudding started

Like mentioned previously I opted to dump the cube tank because of the issue of getting it in and out of the office. I am about 2 inches shy of getting it in without tearing out a stud. My worry isn't now, it's not a problem getting it in, I just don't want the hassle of tearing my office up later on get it out. Drywall would be the least of my worry at that point. So I initiated the build of my 72x36x24 peninsula tank. Obviously the tank alone will be roughly 280g "ish" so it's quite the upgrade.
