Switched To New Bigger Tank & Clownfish Stopped Hosting

Gotcha!

I know nobody may have the answers yet I wanted to pass this by all of you experts and see what you think.

I had a RSM for over 2 1/2 years. After the first year and a half my 2 black paired perc's hosted a Green long tentacle anemone and lived in it virtually 24/7 except to come out and get fed. For one year they lived there in peace in the rear left corner of the RSM 130. About a week ago I upgraded to my dream Elos 120 system and transferred all the stock and live rock to the new tank. I placed an even deeper sand bed in now about 4 inches instead of 2 1/2 so my BSJ and anemone would be more at home. The anemone secured in the front of the tank. I was like wow now I will see the clowns more often as I watch them. WRONG. To my surprise the clowns have not re-hosted the anemone and have made a dug out hole in the rear left corner of the tank like they used to do in the old RSM 130 before they hosted the anemone.

My question sorta is once they have a relationship don't they stay with the anemone if the anomene moves, etc. I know its a new tank and new environment yet in the RSM they lived in a small area 24/7 virtually. Now they swim around the new Elos 120 and I know they see the anemone but they ignore it. Have I ruined the relationship?

On a side note it took 2 days and the anemone now eats more then it ever did in the RSM so it is doing fine and it looks like it really likes the new LED lighting over the old T5's in the RSM.

Any thoughts or discussion would be helpful.

Just give them time..they're probably still exploring their new "surroundings" and if you changed the aquascape, they think they're in a new environment.

I wouldnt' sweat it..as long as they're eating and swimming around they'll be fine...and if they've been hosted before, they will more than likely go back.

YOU BROKE THEM! just kidding, what he said ^ just give it some time.

HaHa the female was so mad with the tank switch that for the first 3 days everytime the male would come up at feeding time and take the frozen brine shrimp she would come up and smack him like she was boycotting the feedings lol. Slowly she is eating more and more yet not like she used to yet. They only get fed at night and at 7:00PM literally on the dot as soon as you went to the tank and before turning down the pumps they were both at the front of the tank for the turkey baster feeding xD.

Hopefully soon they will be back in the swing of things and I hope the anemone stays in the front middle of the tank so you can watch the clowns more when they take to the anemone again.

Thanks for the replies.

Give it time. By the way, the anemone "hosts", the clowns "associate". For humans, the hotel "hosts", the humans "visit"

This is such an old thread. OP last post was in 2010.
I think the clowns eventually went back to the anemone after more than a year per another post of his.
