Synergy reef overflow?

Remember no matter how good a product is there will always be negative reviews. Nothing ever makes everyone happy. It is something like over 50 percent of the people with problems leave a negative reviews and like less than 10 percent of the happy people leave positive reviews or something like that.

Also he talks about flame polished edges ? really on something that is behind the tank! He compares it to eshopps and CPR?

Anyway they all are fine like I said.

Here is another good company.

http://www.exoticmarinesystems.com/

Even more expensive but really good quality.

The only reason I do not use them instead is again I like a removable and covered weir. I have several tanks without removable weirs and it makes a difference. When coralline or algae starts to grow on it I can take it out. This is the first place they start since it is high flow and bright light. I hate grabbing a brush and trying to scrub the stuff out. On my non-removable weirs I have to create covers that stick out with over hangs to block the light. Once coralline start growing it is a pain. I can remove mine and soak it in vinegar to remove any coralline or calcium, I can let it dry out to make sure any algae is dead.

I do not like a straight weir because then snails and fish can go over.

I also like them covered even with teeth because again snails and fish can get in.

To some it may not be important and too each his own. Sometimes until you have it you do not know how important something is. To some it may not be worth the extra money but it is a positive feature no matter what.

NO matter what one the OP goes for It should be fine, all 3 are quality products. I have seen both, I have not seen a exotic marine systems but have only heard positive reviews.

Very well said  For me I just couldn't justify 75.00 more and it was my personal choice.

Also about the review, it's still 92% recommended and I'm not sure why that would affect a buying decision as most the reviews are very positive.

I agree with the above statement also. Just like a controller I thought it was a complete waste of $500 to $800 but after having one I don't think I'll ever have a tank without it. To each their own of course. I'm just giving you the input that I had with my personal experience. Best of luck with whatever you decide

my experience in buying Synergy reef overflow

my experience in buying Synergy reef overflow

Vanessa Lowe at Synergyreef.com is simply rude, unethical and unprofessional. well, I emailed synergy overflow wanting to buy the 20" one and Vanessa Lowe from synergyreef.com replied me saying that they will be closed from July 21st to August 2nd. My friend emailed them couple of months ago and at that time also they said they were closed for couple of weeks. Vanessa said she didn't have the 20" regular ones, but she had only one piece left that would fit a 1" glass, and she would sell it to me if I make the payment immediately, and I said I will buy it.

I paid $249.99 for the product plus $33.13 for shipping totaling $283.12. She said she will ship on 21st and thanked me for the payment. But didn't hear anything from her. On 22nd I received a email from her saying she cancelled the transaction because she felt I was rude and condescending. I was really surprised and confused. Didn't seem professional at all.

At the time of purchase I left a request (paypal has a request box at the time of payment where buyers can put their request to the sellers). I requested them to send a well finished defect free overflow box, and this she condescending? really? Don't understand why though. I'm paying $283.12 and I'm not allowed to request a well finished product?

From the beginning to the end Vanessa From synergryreef.com didn't seem to be a honest person at all. To me it seemed like they are not able to manufacture the orders on time. It may be something like a one man show. But in that case Vanessa could have told me the truth instead of blaming me for their mistake. Honesty is the best way to go synergyreef.com.

Guys
thank you very much for this thread, because I want to buy a overflow very soon so that I can place an order for my custom tank. I have to give the tank maker the drilling instructions and I want to buy the overflow first and measure it and then instruct the tank manufacture to drill the holes according the measurements.

Without this thread I would not have known Modular Marine.

So which one overflow is the best guys (other than synergy overflow)?
Please give me some ideas ppl

Why don't you go with an external box if you're doing a custom tank? My guess is the acrylic on the ghost overflow becomes covered with corralline and becomes hard to clean..

Never had a issue with synergy other than once something did not get mailed when it should but they have always been helpful and very nice..

I have another synergy overflow and still love them and think they are the best and work perfectly and love the removable weir.

I think if I didnt use theirs it would be
http://www.exoticmarinesystems.com/
I have heard allot of good things about it and are very similar to synergy.

You know that synergy is pretty much the same as

They used to make them for them..

good question

good question

I'm buying a glass tank 96" long x 30" wide x 25" tall and the manufacturer says they have a cut the glass all the way along the 96" and then put a weir in front of the glass to do the external overflow box and in addition to that I have to pay extra charges for that.

I think this is a simple solution. I just found out modular marine has 36" long overflow box (synergyreef max length is only 20"), so I'm planning on buying that. Do you think it is a good idea? Please share your thoughts so that I can get ideas and I don't screw up my build

Thanks

Thanks for the website links and I will do some research on these sellers as well.

Yeah about synergyreef my experience was terrible with a lady called Vanessa, I can post the emails if you don't believe me man.

All I did was typed my request in the request box requesting "please send me a good finished defect free overflow,"

Vanessa Lowe said she will ship it yesterday and today she cancelled the transaction saying I was so rude to leave such a request. very strange.

If I'm paying $283.12 for a overflow box, then I'm not allowed to put a request to send me a good finished defect free overflow box? I was just trying to be cautious.

To me it really appears that they are struggling to manufacture and ship to customers on time and they just turn things around and blame the customer for their shortcomings. well, they are closed for next two weeks anyway. Are they a garage operation? will not do business with them. Never

different people have different experiences with them I guess.

MM can go larger than 36" if you email him and give the dimensions you want.

Hello Shred

I was looking at the exotic marine stuff and their boxes don't have teeth. Won't the fish get inside if there are no teeth?
Please let me know your thoughts on this.
thanks

Yea that could be a issue or snails crawling in.

I wish it had the teeth

Yes, the teethless may work fine, but I'm somewhat afraid to try a unconventional design. Fish and snails getting inside could become a real pain. I truly wish he made the box with teeth. I would have bought the 60" one. But the guy Justin Stanley seems very cool. He ships 35" for $250 and free shipping, can be believe that?
seems awesome.

I will ask the modular marine guy whether he will build me one that is 60" with teeth. we will see how much it comes to.

Thanks Shred for your honest opinion.

I am in the market for ghost as well. I currently have a Coast 2 Coast internal with no teeth. And yes I have lost 2 or 3 fish, snails are climbing in the overflow. I actually had to put in gutter guard plastic mesh the length of the overflow. I lost the male in a egg laying pair of clowns. Man was I upset.

Teeth with a cover for me please.

Just ordered the 16 inch from BRS. The synergy. If anyone wants details once in hand or installed feel free to msg me or I will try to remember to post here.

I like both the synergy and Elite Aquatics ghost overflow. Will probably pull the trigger in the next few days.

Just as I was ready to order, I read another post where the teeth on the internal overflows are cut too deep, it appears the ESShopps teeth are cut deep. My tank is a 40b with black trim. I don't want to have the water level 1" inch from the bottom of the trim. Modular Marine is opening back up in Sept. I will work with them to see if I can somehow adjust the internal overflow so either the teeth are higher or the internal overflow box can be higher. If I have to I will cut a piece of acrylic and block the lower portion of the teeth.

It's about time someone mentioned Elite Aquatics
I have their Bean box and find it is very easy to install with the supplied template.
Adjusting is based on personal preference as you need to play with the back box main/standby/emerg plumbing a bit, and set your flow rate for your liking based on your main etc heights

Less money than a Synergy and no magnets to fail/rot away. Overflow is more secure in my mind as it slips into place
