T. maxima distance from MH Bulb?

I was wondering what distance you all keep your maxima from your MH bulbs? I have a 250 watt 10K XM bulb with 2 - 27 watt Actinic PC bulbs. The distance from the bulbs to the sand bed is exactly 24 inches. I have a very large open spot dead center of my tank directly under the bulb, and was wondering if I could place a maxima on the sand bed? The tank is mainly an Acropora tank, and all of my SPS are located in the upper rock work within 12 - 18 inches from the bulb. Thanks in advance for any information!

Im running 250DE 10k ushios on my tank, I keep my maximas and croceas on the shallow sand bed in my standard 75 gallon...I also have a few croceas and maximas that are attached up high in the rock work as well.....But soon will be moving all the clams over to the clam tank once its finally completed ...should be done within a couple weeks...

But to better answer your question my high light clams have a distance away from the 250 bulb of one to two feet....

Thanks for the info!! I know that blue <i>maxima</i> require higher light, while the more brown they have, the less. I was thinking about putting one of the tiger, or tear drops, at this level.

With 250s you can keep any clam on the sand bed unless the tank is super super deep...say anything deeper than 30inches ...

what about if the tank is 25" and the 250's are SE's are 8 or so inches from the water....will that work for all clams...or should I look at 250 DE's?

i use 2x400w se on my tank and have my blue maxima 2/3 of the way up in a 25" deep tank, happy as can be. the derase sits on the sandbed and loves it there. i wouldnt keep a maxima or crocea on the sandbed as they really prefer and feel more comfortable when kept in the rockwork.

Every time I have had them on the rock work they jump Could have been not enough light to I guess...this was a long time ago. Anyway I still want to keep them low in the tank...I like looking from a higher angle...they just look so darn purdy!
