I'm planning on getting a tridacna maxima once my 50g has aged a little (it's just at the two-month period and I'm avoiding the urge to rush things, which has led to problems with previous tanks). I know that in the wild, they bore into rocks, but I've seen many pictures of tanks where they are placed directly on the sandbed. Is this a good idea if you are going to be including a lot of burrowing creatures in the tank? I'm a huge pistol shrimp/goby fan, and also plan on getting a jawfish, all of which will be digging around underneath the clam, so could probably injure the (whatever you call those threads that the clams use to hold themselves in place). Any feedback?
