The Current brand stuff is pretty good quality, not not a premium design. I really don't understand why they haven't come out with a good unit, reflector wise. They would sell a lot of them.

yes they sure would sell a lot of them, and if you could get them with no bulbs in them that would be better yet, allowing you to decide what color of bulbs you want.

You can see that it has lightened in color as well....

<<< Single reflector for all bulbs = Crap >>>

Not crap at all IMO, just not suitable for very high light requiring corals or clams. The Nova fixture is a nice turn key fixture for most applications, and the LED moonlights look really cool at night :-)

Then just get half the bulbs then and get a real T5 unit. With the Nova you are paying for 2x as many bulbs to change out and 2x as much power for the same amount of light as you would get with a quality retro kit. You might as well just use PCs if your going to use the Nova IMO.

Nice growth Horace....I've got a pink birdsnest that has grown great over the past couple of months. I hope it looks like your after shot soon.

My digitatas are growing really nicely too, if my computer at home hadn't crashed recently I'd post some shots when I got home....Need to take a bunch of pics and bring them to work w/ me I guess.

Again nice shots, and I agree w/ the statement about the Nova.... I almost got sucked in, until someone pointed out the differences. Tek has done me and my tank very well....

IMO its because the T5s are VERY bright. My T5 tank is much brighter than the tank that the frag came from. The tank it came from used 400w XM 20k.

Oh and here is the difference in color since I upgraded from a single reflector unit to individual Icecap SLRs....No question...they rock! Exact same bulbs, just moved into the new retro.

So lets say for arguments sake what is the difference in PAR from 250HQI 14K Peonix to a T5 setup say 6 or 8 bulb (I've got a 90 gallon tank) So how many bulbs should be over it I don't know. I was sortof kicking around the idea of putting T5's over my frag tank.

You would be close one way or another.

I would say you do not need an 8 bulb setup and infact they wont fit unless you use the small Tek reflectors. You can only fit 6 Icecap SLRs over a 75/90. I am actually trying to reduce my PAR a bit right now...not raise it. If you go with a retro, I would buy the Icecap SLRs and get a standard drive ballast and run 6 bulbs, or get 4 bulbs on an icecap 660.

My montipora did exactly what yours did, except less growth because I kept breaking it. But it lightens up alot and it came from a tank that has the same lighting as mine. Probably something else like water quality? I even raised the lighting but no help. Its encrusting and growing though

Any more tank shots???? post your tank and lighting configuration so we can gauge your par ect...

So now that people have the new UV Super Actinic bulb, what do you think? How does it compare with the Giesemann pure actinic?

Horace,
Those pics are very nice. I took a few of my two Montipora Digitatas, my three Montipora Capricornis, my Millipora and Hydnophora. They're all new frags and have been under the lights less than a month. I'm seeing growth on the tips of the Digis and the Milli. The Milli even has a new branch starting to grow. I'm going to take another set of pics at the end of June and July. Then, I'll post them. My soft and LPS continue to grow. I have a hammer that is beautiful and is actually the centerpiece of the tank.

Thx...I will post some more pics of my tank/corals sometime soon. I have several corals that have shown some good growth as well. Some of my corals have taken a while to take off but are now doing great. My tort in peticular didnt do anything for about 7-8 months but is now growing...not super fast of course, but its growing :P. I have another acro that has about doubled/trippled since it was a frag 2 months ago.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

I got my lights today :)

I got the 6 bulb TEK fixture with 3 AB and 3 B+

OMG these suckers are BRIGHT, and I was surprised at how thin the bulbs are, man these things are frickin awesome

I am however missing the splash shield, I think they forgot to send it
