T5 Length?

Do you typically match a T5 fixture to the same length as your tank? For example, on a 4' tank would you typically use a 4' or 3' fixture?

I have a Reefer 425XL which is an odd 47" in width so that's why I'm wondering.

Not all the time unless u plan to have some all the way to the edge of your aquarium. If u place lps to the edge they will be fine. Also u can hang your fixture higher to increase spread

FWIW.. I run a 24" ATI on my 36" wide tank (40b) without issues at all..
So you certainly don't need to..

Visually I can barely notice the difference but I can see its ever so slightly "dimmer" in the last 2-3" of the tank at most.. But I don't put corals there anyways so its not an issue..

BRS did a very compelling video on PAR measurement.. the T5 test is eye opening to say the least. I would challenge the 'need' to match tank length.

I run a 48" on my 72" 125. The ends of the tank have the overflows and powerheads, so no light is needed there. I have a mixed reef, so soft corals go towards the ends of the lights and LPS and SPS more towards the middle. Everything seems to be doing fine and I only have to clean the front of the tank every week.

I bit the bullet early and ordered a 48" fixture ... If I had read these responses first I probably would have just done 36"

you'll definitely be ok with a 48" fixture, you'll just get light spill on the sides.
