If you use glass tops, get some custom cut pieces of 1/4" starphire cut for the top. According to the meter, it barely blocks any light unless it gets full of deposits (even then, its only 5%). While I wouldnt favor glass tops normally, if you use low-iron glass, its fine. I do it, and my gas exchange is fine (thanks to the skimmer) and so is the heat.
