T5 Questions...

I started reading the T5 post over in the lighting forum, but holy crap there is alot to read. As I am not in the mood to go through pages and pages, I figured I'd ask the people here.

My uncle wants to change over from VHO to T5 with 175W MH. He has a custom made 5' tank. So my question is does anyone know of any place that sells the 5' bulbs. Only seen 2 and 3 foot bulbs.

I know that each bulb should have a reflector so he needs to get that in addition to the endcaps. Each bulb endcaps will run about $15 for the endcaps and standoffs, anyone find any cheaper price.

I'm running 4 t5's and 2 175w MH on my 120 if you want you can come check out my setup. I used the SLS 4' ready fit kits it was a lot easier to install than a retro kit.

I've got a 4' tank (2' deep) with 2 actinic T5s and 2x250 ReefLux 10Ks (would rather have 12 or 14ks though).

Phyl.What is the reasoning behind that? Are you saying that you rather use the higher K and no actinic's. I've been running 250watts 10 and 14k on the same tank with no actinics and liked the look and growth. I'm changing to 400watts and have some VHO's. Was thinking about using T5's instead of VHO's. Haven't bought new bulbs for the MH's yet What setup would you suggest?

I'd still like the tank a little more blue, even with the actinic supplementation. I think 12k (with the t5 act) would be a perfect color.

What do you have in the tank and do you miss the MH shimmer?

I've read you can use a couple white leds and get the shimmer. Or even a straight up incadecent lamp will do it also.

Is the simmer the same as the Halide shimmer? Not sure if you can answer that Rich.

Would be great to cut down on some of the heat.
