T5 vs VHO atinics

Ok if I had a 660 on my 6' long 125, what bulb combo would you recomend (t-5+pc)?

IMO I would stay away from pc. PAR isn't great for the wattage, and bulbs are still fairly expensive. Go all T5, T5 with VHO, halide, or halide with VHO.

I meant vho. So what bulb combo would you recomend (t-5+vho)

I would go with VHO superactinics, just my taste though. I have ran two 54w T5 actinics and they are still not as good IMO as 1, 110w VHO actinic.

T5 are more efficient for light output, than VHO.


T5 also are more blue, where VHO are more purple, so it really depends on what MH bulb you're going to run them with. 10K bulbs tend to have a pretty good violet spike, so T5s are actually better, whereas VHOs are better on 12-15K bulbs. IIRC

Rich, that's very interesting. I didn't know that about 10Ks...is this true for most of the major brands? Thanks for the info.

CaptainDave, I dont remember exactly, I think its in one of sanjays test, it was kind of strange, and I remember 20Ks and 10Ks spiking in the same color, and 12-15K bulbs being different.


I'm gonna look it up now.


if you want to go really crazy, try 6500K halides, and run half and half with the VHO and T5.

We're talking bout actinics right? If vho actinics make certain colors pop, and t5 actinics make other colors pop, does'nt it make sence to run both in order to get more colors to pop out?
