T5s on a 20g

Second Opinion:

29g tank ( 30" long ) lit by 2X24w T5s ( 1 UVL Super Actinic and 1 UVL Actinic/white ) w/ aqualux reflectors ( rank just slightly below icecaps ).

Softy and LPS tank.

Note: pictures looks more blue than in person.

IMO: The reflectors are going to be key. If your using flat reflectors or no reflectors then the amount of usable light is going to be significantly less......

David, what ballsat are you running on your set up? Looks like you might be overdriving the bulbs. Is Aqualux still in business?

No overdriving. Each bulb is on a seperate Universal/Triad programable start ballasts ( from reefgeek ) so that the actinics only can be on during morning/evening.

Correct, no longer in business. I know the reflectors came from Germany but no clue if anyone sells them in the US now that he is out of the hobby. ( John of aqualux was in our local reefclub ). I had some 3' reflectors from a previous setup around so I just cut them down and used them vs. buying Icecaps reflectors ( which I use on all my other tanks ).

David:

Are you using t5's on all your tanks now?., are you still keeping sps, wondering how that's going with t5's. I'm setting up a 36L X 24W X22H all sps tank and still wondering wether I can light it with all t5;s - no halides and get good growth & Color.

Any thoughts?

Now with kids and a much lower budget for the tank, I only have a 110g show tank that is pretty much a community tank. All SPS/Acros are in the top 10" and the rest is LPS/Softy. I can't really comment to much on an all SPS/Acro dominated tank since all of mine in at the top. But with good water parameters, both color and growth have been amazing.

Here is a thread from our local club of a growth sequence of 3 months of my "Frag Island"......which also gives you a good reference of the colors I'm getting.....
