Taking Sump Dark

My fuge recently got overrun by hair and bubble algae. I pulled most of my micro algae out (some left) and plan on taking it dark for the next week or so. Any thoughts on adverse impact potential other than the obvious of not having the benefit of a working fuge.

That's where you want the bad stuff to grow the fuge is doing its job. If you take the light off the fuge the algae will find another place to grow like the display. Excessive algae growth in the fuge is a sign of a nutrient problem ramping up. I would leave the light on and ramp up your nutrient export.

I agree the fuge is doing it's job. Rather it be in the fuge than the DT.

The problem was that the bubble and hair algae overtook the micro algae that I was as using to pull out the nutrients and now is spreading into my display

Algae down there may die and dump phosphate they contained back into the system. Be prepared to deal with that by running GFO. Which would solve your hair algae problem without a blackout.
