Taking the Plunge

Finally... Progress!

Preliminary rockwork (there is 15lbs in the QT that will also be added)

I also hope to buy more rock a little bit at a time to beef up my coral real estate.

On a funny note... Today I discovered that "Quarantine Tank" is a misnomer. The appropriate term should be "Tang Spa." I walked into the spare bedroom to find my Kole sitting on top of the air stone, enjoying the bubbles. I ran out of the room to get my camera, but by the time I got back she wasn't there anymore. What I wouldn't give to have gotten that on film!

Just read this whole thread (clearly not much to do at work today) and its given me an idea of what I have in store for me, though I only have a 39g cadlights setup. Still cycling now though nothing noticeable has happened as far as level changes yet (1 week), and waiting in anticipation for the time I can start adding. My heart goes out to you after your loss, but everything looks like it will come even better this time around. Good luck, I will be following along...

I like :)

As you probably know I'm a fan of the separated scapes, but like you already eluded too... it can get crowded quick with regard to coral scaping.

All that means is that only the "best of the best" makes the cut. :D

I like it too---IMO keep the reef the way it is and add any more live rock you might need to the sump

Here's the new setup, not quite the 90g but I like what Ive done with the place. Sorry for the lines, iphone doesnt like all that movement. Also sorry to hijack the thread, but I figured you showed yours so Ill show mine. lol

Thanks, definitely cycling now. Nitrates are up, algae starting to grow, I think I should wait until the end of the week for a CUC though. Short periods of light and waiting for me right now.

Wow, nice tang. Im glad you are sticking with it. I so want to set my tank back up. I have been going thru some serious withdrawals! Keep it up!

Thanks, everyone. :)

Wait until your nitrate spike is over before adding your CUC, as crustaceans are sensitive to nitates.

Patience is a virtue in this hobby. :D

very nice job on the reef
What kind of substrate are you using?

Arag-Alive Indo-Pacific Black Sand. Love the way it came out, thank you. And I know, Im getting a nice lesson in patience right now. But thats ok, Im getting new life to stare at everyday so thats holding me over :).

Glad to see you restarting after a near complete loss. That Kole tang is very nice. I can't remember any time i did not have a Kole tang or a Hyppo in my tnak but mines have always been blue eyed. ITs amazing how these "dull" fish can color up at times. Whenever I introduce any fish it just colors up really well.
The nice thing about those is how much time they spend picking on rocks cleaning up algae.
I second Marcs question on any plans for backup for future power failures?
Good luck with the rebuild.

Pete and I are looking into a small generator to run the tank... he says if it runs the tank it's enough, he'll live without the TV :eek2: Hard to believe!

For now I have a power inverter to run from my car to the tank in the interim in case of any unforseen emergency.
