Tang Compatability

Grizzled & Cynical
For those who have multiple Tangs ......

I currently have a Yellow, Purple and Hippo in a 265. All three fish are between 3 1/2 and 5 inches in size. I have a chance to get a large Kole locally, and plan to add an Achilles later on. So, five Tangs in my tank, mostly from different genus.

What do folks think? Doable, asking for trouble ..... ?

I have a yellow tang and a lavender tang together and a desjardini in qt at the moment. There is a little aggression from time to time but nothing out of the norm and the fish never hurt one another. My brother had a 6" hippo with a 5" kole tang before a power outage crashed his tank and killed them. While I cant speak on 5 tangs, I will tell you that his hippo and his kole tang got along great. In fact, when he added the kole tang, the hippo NEVER showed the slightest bit of aggression. They got along great and of all the tangs ive seen in different tanks I have never seen another tang graze like my brothers kole tang. He kept the tank spotless as far as algae is concerned! Hope everything works out for you I would def go for the kole tang if I were in your shoes

I've kept that combination in the past successfully. The important things with tangs is introduction order and quarantine. I've actually found hippos to be quite belligerent and destructive when they get large. Definitely use an acclimation box if you decide to pick up the kole.
