Tang Compatibility!

Very nice tank. Don't you know angels aren't reef safe and no yellow tangs unless you have 250 gallon tank. Lol

What kind of butterfly fish are those. There nice. What size tank. It's beautiful

Some one on here who barely posts because clearly trying to show a tank off like this would bring far more hate than complements. Not sure on species, only that they are far from happy. Pretty sure it is 57g?

I would take what websites out there have as suggestions to tank size and stocking suggestions (they are after all in the buisness of selling) with less than a grain of salt. I think its funny that some are being labeled as "tang police" because they have constructive , EDUCATED opinions on what should and shouldn't be done. I guess it boils down to what sort of home you want to provide for anything that you consider a pet. Does that mean the bare minimum, less is more type attitude or the strive to provide the best for your pet, whatever that may be. Maybe the disconnect if because they are fish and (some) people don't get emotionally attached to fish? There are many reasons why the lifespan in this hobby is less than 3 years, bad husbandry is just one of them

This is all a reflection of modern Relativist culture. Everyone is their own authority and every way is now the way, rather than there being one range of standards with room for true exceptions.

Everyone considers themselves to be exceptional, so everything they do is the exception and demanded to be part of the standard. It's narcissism, and it's an epidemic.

I'm glad I had good mentors in the hobby over 20 years ago so I can adhere to good husbandry practices and appropriate standards that I don't set for myself arbitrarily and in arrogance or ignorance.

I don't need to redefine the aquarium hobby and be the fish god. I'm content to stand on the shoulders of the many who have gone before who established and developed the hobby in every way.

why do all you people think your the fish whisper. if the guy wants to get a tang, go for it. it will be harder in a smaller tank, but not impossible. tangs can live in a 4 foot tank or a 6 foot. I have a friend who has a tommi, a purple tang and a hippo for over 5 years in a 90. they are all living and fine. the bottom line is any fish you keep several years healthy and growing is ok in my book.

why do people like you get so damn offended when people voice a different opinion? its a public forum, theres gonna be differing opinions. i hate that crap. just like when people say "stay out of my @s" on twitter. its a freaking public forum! you also never said how big his fish are. if the overwelming majority say its not a good idea maybe YOU'RE the one in the wrong.

When someone tells you unsolicited that your doing it wrong and it's cruel you tend to defend yourself. Maybe it just me. But I think if I told you you where raising your kids incorrectly you might put me in my place

Plus majority isn't always right. We once though the world was flat. Once thought salvery was ok. Majority isn't always right. Your point isn't valid

Ps saying your opinion is educated and constructive doesn't make it true.

Yes but FACTS and LOGIC do make it true no matter how many times you or anyone else argue the opposite. This thread will be closed before long since someone is going to make some off the wall comments and Sugar or Brian will close this thread and end this debate. Bottom line is, we strive to provided the BEST possible home for our pets or you shouldn't have them period.

When people much smarter than you with lifetimes worth of experience in the hobby say so it does make it right though. And Im not talking about anyone that has commented here. Would love to hear someone like PaulB or Kevin Kohens thoughts on this topic

ok sport!!! you are laying it on a little thick now... not sure if you are prepping for your SAT or not?

Dmorty if a expert saw my tank in person and made a recommendation I would listen like anyone should but you are not that guy. For you to think you know more or less than me is little premature

Still using wet dry and miracle mud? How about making sure you have 1lb live rock for every gallon?!? You do realize things are a little different than 20 years ago?

Side note... Now I get it. In an earlier post, I thought another poster was condescending to me and calling me "Sugar". It was a mod's name, and my comments about appropriate tank size weren't considered constructive.

I'm confused. Is the standard at RC to not present long-standing hobby standards as informed opinion? I guess I'm accustomed to other forum subjects where it's okay to disagree and not get edited, banned, or have threads closed.

I thought the Tang Police versus anti-Tang Police was an accepted topic. I had no idea it was verboten to dare challenge others' opinions that defy reason.

Substrate, filtration, etc. will always be variable, but still within a range. Nobody advocates NO filtration or limited filtration. The principles behind the changes are still static, even when the actual method changes.

Improvements and developments aren't the same kind of changes as fish territories versus tank size, etc. To even make that comparison is absurd.

It's totally ok to disagree. Freedom of speech. But let's be civil. Sometimes I lose my head too it's the mods job to remind us

Relax just adding a little gas to the fire. Things change and people will always have different methods and no problem with that

I'm all for appropriately pushing boundaries. Most forget there are boundaries and just push for no reason other than being an exception unto themselves.
