Ctenochaetus cyanocheilus - "Striped Bristletooth/Tang"

Most of my searches for "Striped Bristletooth/Tang" yield completely different results such as Koles, Yellow Eyes, etc.. And when I search "Ctenochaetus cyanocheilus" all I get is very scientific results, nothing pertaining to aquarium related info that I have seen (yet).

I have one that is very similar, sold to me as assorted bristletooth tang, lookup Ctenochaetus striatus. you should find more information on the species name i gave.

good luck.

i believe this is called the "blue lipped bristletooth", i found it in my surgeon fish book but it doesn't really give any aquarium keeping information but i'd be willing to scan you the page and send it to you if you would like. It has a full page of description information about where it is from and what not.

as a good rule of thumb i would treat it with the requirements of any other bristletooth until you find the information your looking for.

Hey that would be awesome if you could do that! feel free to email it to me.. I'll pm my email addy.

I have a Striatus and he's one of my best reef citizens. I only add fish that will "work" for a living and this guy might as well be sitting outside Home Depot looking to lay sheet rock. Bristletooth tangs are quite hardy and easy to care for. Got mine from Sea Dwelling and he was eating flake the same day. No aggression issues whatsoever with my blonde naso, Bariene, vlamingi, purple tangs, starry rabbitfish, or my majestic angel. Their mouths are specially designed to pick microalgae off rocks but I have success feeding PE mysis, Rod's food, Ocean Nutrition flakes, live baby brine, red algae sheets, and blanched nori. I never QT and have not lost a fish. I use Vitamin C supplement with all foods and ich usually disappears within a day after introduction. The adult coloration of the striatus is similar to the adult coloration of the chevron tang. Go with a bristletooth tang, great personality and work ethic as well as quite hardy.

^^ Thanks for posting that info..

I am quite happy with this guy so far. He is eating Mysis and Formula1 Pellets, and hasn't shown much aggression at all other than asserting himself when my Coral Beauty flares up at him. Typical "new guy" initiation. He is a very busy fish for sure, zipping around picking at the rockwork and bit of algae I let grow on the back glass.

Hopefully he will get along with the Powder Brown that I want to add.
